Abstract:

From the study of rewe as an icon, which represents the Mapuche identity, is that in this article I will cover topics in relation to a culture that is born or re - elaborated from the urban. In this context, which we could call a rescuer, there is also recourse to the external expression of a "collective identity", in which it is not enough simply a re - to know one another, but a re - knowledge on the part of those of us who belong to a larger society, which has not ceased to make the difference between the "we" and the "others", with the present presence of an "other" re - built by those who today intend to make the exercise of constituting themselves as an "otherness", but under their own terms. It is in this action that the need to use the image as a strategy to manifest ethnicity is evident.

This re-elaboration of ethnic identity is subject to the learning (they study for this re-elaboration) of the symbols, which we will call "Mapuche identity icons", which interpret this yearning search for their own and alien re-knowledge that one is an "other", in a society that is a state that seeks the homogenization of all its inhabitants.
