This article reflects on the research and filmmaking process, behind the etnographic documentary Cantadoras. Memories of Life and Death in Colombia. The paper explains the afrocolombian women`s practice of cantadoras as a cultural resistance, in response to the historical violence they have been subject to. It describes its cinematographic propose in relation with the research process, and it presents the principals scientific findings through film archives research and filmming material.
