Sueños Peruanos I: De imágenes migrantes a figuras emprendedoras en el documental peruano.

Migrants, mainly of Andean descent, have constituted a reiterative subject in the Peruvian documentary. Likewise, they have also been a central focus in a discussion about the formation of a diverse, integrated and democratic Peru that was presented and debated by several social science researchers in the mid 1980’s, but also as subjects having a predisposition to immerse themselves in a market oriented economy. What happens with the images of the once marginal migrant when it gets incorporated as the figure of the emergent entrepreneur? The search for a Peruvian identity is getting transformed and reconstituted within a neoliberal model that is increasingly becoming a cultural order. This essay explores how some Peruvian documentaries have undertaken these transformations on the recent history and social imaginary of the last decades in Peru. Are the documentaries as media performances mobilizing absent imaginaries, evocating reiterative Peruvian dreams or forging longing aspirations for a Peruvian identity?
