“Modern motherhoods and childhoods under discussion. An approach to dialogues and the moral and politic economy of development from eastern Guatemala.
As from some kind of "visual rhetoric" anchored in the plot of attention to hunger and malnutrition in a region of eastern Guatemala, this text provides an approach to moral and political economy of suffering through several versions of "motherhood "and" childhood" that are brought into play in the practices of humanitarian and development cooperation. Against the claim that the “suffering bodies” are now the bodies of empowerment, this paper deals with the recreated landscapes by hegemony, bringing the “suffering of others” in a commodity that is now, once again, the contemporary expression of the lack of morals. A general picture of (no) meetings, a space where the political bodies of suffering become the social field of inequality.
