Notions of mestizaje: a reading of the works of Bernardo Oyarzún.
We will analyze two of the works of Chilean artist Bernardo Oyarzún. Both works will be seen under the notions of miscegenation and will be contextualized according to the perspectives developed by several authors who address the concept in question. We'll see how the artist uses the language of contemporary art, and resorts to his own body as the basis of his works, suggesting a body that is not defined by the standards of beauty imposed by the West, allowing us to perceive a strong critique of the forms of colonialism that persist and survive today under the modern concept of racism. Oyarzún shows how these concepts are fully applicable to the present chilean society and are embodied in the figure of the mestizo.
