The camera in the fieldwork: methodological and ethical uses of the audiovisual recording in the world of the andean mapuche.
In the present visual ethnography it is explored how, nowadays, the audiovisual recording could provide possibilities to the anthropological practice. In order to do so, in this study it is addressed retrospectively; an investigative experience developed within the study framework of the mapuche funereal rite. Specifically, the focus is on two areas in which it was beneficial the use of audiovisual recording: in one hand, within the methodological realm; as a validation tool of information and as a technique of recollection of it and, in the other hand, within the realm of ethics; as a reciprocity implement – as a “vuelta de mano” (a return of the favor) - for the inhabitants of the territories where it was carried out the inquiry.
