Overlapping of gazes in the forensic crane-facial reconstruction: The recreated face and the remembered face.
In the event of emergencies or mass disaster scenarios, when it is not possible to identify human skeletal remains based on scientific evidence (as DNA), and only the testimony of the victims’ relatives is available, a possible alternative is to apply the forensic craniofacial reconstruction method. It consists in recreate, from an unknown person’ skull, a facial image of their face, with the aim of being identified by witnesses. Based on bibliographic review and the author’s experience in the field, this investigation explores the recognition mechanics behind the search for coincidences, between the recreated face and the face that persists in the witnesses’ memory.
